I've been down at my parents a bit this weekend (and am on from there now actually) helping them get online with their new PowerMac G4. It's a pretty slick machine, faster then any of the Macs that I have.
My mom has a dialup account through Wesleyan University, and I have to say that I've found their dialin setup to be pretty annoying. First off, you have to be able to script all the connection stuff, since it doesn't seem to allow you to use other forms of authentication. This has proven to be a bit of a pain, since OS X doesn't seem to have support for scripting a login connection. (Has anyone run into anything for this? I was thinking I might be able to do something with Applescript, but I really don't know enough about it).
The other annoying thing I've noticed about wesleyan is that their modems only seem to be 33.6. As a result, when I'm doing things I dial right into AT&T/Mediaone and access things that way, since they have 56K modems. My big goal now is to convince my parents to let me get them cable modem service for 6 months to a year to see how they like it. It would definitely make coming down to visit them a bit more bearable :).
