I knew there had to

I knew there had to be a catch

Microsoft has posted a Security Bulletin for Office v.X. Office has this piracy protection 'feature' that when you run it, it looks to see if any other copies of it are running on your network with the same license key. It's kind of annoying. I wonder if they make a bulk license version that only uses one key (Imagine trying to manage an office of anything more then 5 people with this). Anyways, it seems that there's a bug in the feature that lets people send a packet to a machine running office trips the feature. Making Office suddenly shut down, giving the user no chance to save their work.

Now I like Office v.X a lot. I think MS's Mac group did a great job on it, but it's details like this that keep reaffirming my poor attitude towards Microsoft. Thank god OSX has a built-in firewall so I can block that protection check.
