My friend Jeff pointed me at an article about a Museum exhibit in Detroit that covers the history of techno. Quite fitting since detroit is the home of techno. From the sound of it, this exhibit is quite overdue.
Detroit's electronic music community is notorious for nitpicking. Be it deconstructing the finer elements of what separates one genre from another or arguing over who performed a particular style first -- artists, fans and pundits always find something to quibble over.
But there is one point on which everyone seems to agree; techno music -- which originated in Detroit -- has been too long ignored by its hometown.
The Detroit Historical Museum hopes to change all that. On Saturday, the museum will unveil a new exhibit on the evolution and significance of Detroit techno, which blossomed in Europe in the mid '80s but remained a veritable enigma at home until recently.
