Hikaru no Go

Hikaru no Go has been a bit slow for the last bunch of episodes. I just finished watching episode 68 and things look like they might start to shift into gear again. In many ways I'm hoping this show hasn't jumped the shark. They removed a major character and it has thrown everything into a kind of paused state. The last episode or two have done some interesting things as far as moving characters into place for something interesting to happen, but I wonder how it will affect the series.

I really need to get back into reading the manga, I'm only like two volumes into it at the moment.

Yes, I wish [major character] would return just long enough to kick Hikaru's ass and get everything back in gear. Though it's also natural from a character sense to have such a major change reflected in the plotline. I don't know how long this went on in the manga, but I hope we're coming to the end of it...

Considering that Hikaru's funk lasts better part of a year, it's perfectly natural for the show to drag a bit. And you are coming to the end of it: while [missing character] won't do it, Isumi acts as the next best thing (why do you think there've been so many episodes about him lately?). And the story picks up soon, with Hikaru vs Touya (FINALLY!) and then the Young Lions Tournament. It's all good!

A big problem is that the anime is catching up with the manga. The recently fansubbed episode 68 is at around manga chapter 140 out of a total of 185-ish (I believe both translated versions are aproximately near current, but I could be wrong). They're cramming a little less into each episode now because of that, I think (although again, I could be totally wrong since I haven't bothered to check).

It is a very nice anime. I like Shindo Hikaru alot. i think he had shown his determination for go and to be independent by himself. Althought it is a pity that sai is not with him but i hope the best for him.
