{"id":2649,"date":"2003-04-10T22:45:16","date_gmt":"2003-04-10T22:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ezoons.com\/?p=2649"},"modified":"2003-04-10T22:45:16","modified_gmt":"2003-04-10T22:45:16","slug":"ooops_for_googl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ezoons.com\/?p=2649","title":{"rendered":"Ooops for Google"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Ben Edelman, a fellow at The Berkman Center for Internet &#038; Society, it seems that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/safesearch_help.html\">Google&#8217;s SafeSearch<\/a> feature is a little too agressive <a href=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/people\/edelman\/google-safesearch\/\">when filtering out possibly offensive material<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>He continues: &#8220;SafeSearch is intended by Google to block &#8216;pornography and explicit sexual content,&#8217; but my research indicates that it blocks far more. SafeSearch is easily confused by ambiguous words in web page titles &#8212; like &#8216;Hardcore Visual Basic Programming,&#8217; a web page that describes intense programming for experts, without any sexually-explicit content whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;SafeSearch also makes mistakes that are harder to understand &#8212; like filtering the National Middle School Association (nmsa.org) and even the front page of Northeastern University (neu.edu), not to mention numerous sites operated by national and local governments.&#8221; [<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/2003\/04\/10#a237\">Weblogs at Harvard Law<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Uh, oops?
