    It’s raining… leaves
I just looked outside and for a good minute leaves were falling and swirling around, almost looking like big huge yellow and red snowflakes.

    Stuck
I have the power girls singing “love love love love love. makes the world go round” stuck in my head. The episode where they sing it was on over the weekend and I happened upon it. I wonder if there’s a recording of it online anywhere.

    Perfect Evenings
I just realized that the nights where I can sit out on my doorstep are slowly disappearing as fall and winter come. It’s kind of depressing actually. I’ve really grown to like taking the laptop out to the doorstep of my building and sitting there under the stars.

    I am so spoiled.

Bah. Today has been a hellish day at work. I haven’t even had time to get away from my desk for lunch.

    iPod uPod!
So Apple announced its new little gadget today: the iPod. My first thought was that it was a bit pricey at $399. But then as I thought about it more, it actually isn’t that bad in the scale of other products out there. First, it has firewire. This rocks because it means you’ll be able to download music to it pretty quickly. Second, it’s got a 5 gig hard drive in it that stores songs and can also be used as a portable hard drive. Third, It’s got great battery life. Fourth, if you look at devices that have similar form factors, the higher level Rio costs $250 and only has 125MB in it. There are devices that have larger hard drives in them, but none of them are at the size of the iPod. So the question remains, would I buy one? If I had $400 sitting around, I might think about it, but I don’t, so probably won’t get one.

I just wanted to add that there’s something else that I think makes this different then other mp3 players out there. It seems to be targetted at the person who isn’t a big computer type user. It’s set up to integrate with itunes, the mp3 program that comes with the mac. You can basicly plug it in and go. While that’s been true of other devices, I don’t think their target audience was computer users in general. It was still much more of a kind of ‘geek toy’.

    Seek and you shall find
Yesterday I read about something called letterboxing. No, not as in how movies are letterboxed on television, this is a kind of global puzzle game. The idea is that there are these boxes hidden all over the world, you just have to figure out the clues to find them. Once you find one you stamp the log book in it with your rubber stamp, and then stamp your own log book with the stamp from the letterbox. Sometimes you’ll find things like clues on where to find another letterbox. One reason this appealed to me is that it is similar to Geocaching, something I’ve read about a few times and have always wanted to try out.

I think I need a new alarm clock
I have this problem these days where I have to set my clock a good hour to hour and a half before I really want to get up because I’ll start hitting the snooze button. If I’m in a deep enough sleep I’ll hit the button continuously for a good 45 minutes before I even realize that I’m doing it.

Part of my training for this came in college. Nobody in my suite would want to wake up, so they’d just hit the snooze button. None of us thought to turn off the alarm. That would mean we’d never wake up.

This morning I decided my clock has two flaws. The first is that when hitting the snooze bar it is too easy to turn on the radio. By doing this the alarm is reset, and will never go off again until. Not good. The other is that the alarm reset button is just above the snooze button. There has been more than one occasion where I’ve just turned off my alarm, only to wake up 2 hours later in a panic.

Anyone have any good alarm clock suggestions?

I guess there’s a first time for everything. (Yes, I’m being unnecessarily cryptic).

    You’ve “seen” them.
Maybe on a sign at the “grocery” store, maybe in an ad in your “local” newspaper. Perhaps even in a “memo” that circulated throughout your company.
