My Radio Weblog
I set up a My own radio weblog. For the moment there isn’t much there beyond me getting pissed off at software that (from my view) doesn’t work well. What frustrates me even more is that Radio looks like it would be very cool to use. But as it is right now, it is unusable for me. And since it just came out, it isn’t like there are a lot of resources out there to get help with it.

Whew… what a day
I still haven’t had much sleep, but I got a bunch of shopping done. I got a new comforter, some new sheets, a pseudo-lava lamp, a bunch of other random apartment stuff. Now I think I need a nap so I can be rested to go for sushi if that ends up being in my cards tonight.

Weblogging into the future.(warning: low
Weblogging into the future.
(warning: low sleep ramble ahead)
There’s a been a lot of buzz in parts of the weblogging world leading up to today. Radio 8.0 was released (very) early this morning by Userland Software. It’s actually pretty cool. I think for the beginning weblogger it would be quite cool. But while weblogging is somewhat like radio broadcasting (Adam Curry), I think there are some different levels to the whole thing also. It is like pirate radio broadcasting. Adam talks about building his own transmitter when he was a kid. And this is much more how I see the whole blogging experience. I look at sights like Alexa’s or zannah’s and there’s a level of creativity going on there beyond text. These are the sites that are as much about style as they are content (IMHO). My one problem with Userland sites so far is that they tend to all look pretty close to the same.
Things like Radio and Moveable Type are really exciting to me. They are taking the concept of something like Blogger and working on ways to give users even more control over things like presentation and content.
The hard part for me is that currently, every product out there does a portion of what I want. Movable Type has lots of keen features, but I find myself looking towards some of their new features. Radio is the one that I’m most curious about. I have so many questions as I look at it. How easy is it to build my own template, how easy is it to basicly rebuild my current site using it. I have a lot of things i do with my blog, little things like the ‘cookies’ or comments. They don’t get a ton of use, but I do like them being a part of my site.
The other thing I don’t know (and hopefully someone can share with me) is how radio works at the publishing level. One of the options you have is publishing to the radio servers. You also have the opportunity to publish via FTP to anywhere you want (can we hope for scp support soon??). The next question I have is, how do I publish when I’m away from home? The one nice thing about blogger is that I can connect to the service from work or home or my parent’s place. It doesn’t matter where I am. This isn’t quite as much as an issue to me because I have a laptop, but for people who blog a lot and only have a PC at home this makes something like Radio less useful (or am I missing something).
Adam, I know you peek over here now and then and are a pretty serious Radio user. If you’re reading right now, care to comment? Or any good pointers to resources? Is there anyone else who reads here who can answer that stuff?
All this has also got me thinking about how I blog. I like what zannah does, where she has a number of different blogs that reflect different aspects of things she writes about. /usr/bin/girl is mostly about links, voxmachina is just random moments from her life, and so on. The thing is I don’t know is if I could keep up with it all (sometimes I wonder how she does it!).
So this is where I am right now, lots of thinking on this subject, lots of not really coming up with answers, lots of me just rambling after getting only 4 hours of sleep.

Getting CloserOkay. I have a
Getting Closer
Okay. I have a TiVo, and I love it. It’s probably one of the best ‘appliances’ I’ve bought for my apartment ever. It gets used almost as much as my computer. The problem I have with it is that I want it to do more. Here I have a box that runs linux on the inside and all I can do is watch TV with it. I want it to have ethernet also. I want it to be able to stream music off of my computer which is set up for streaming music (or play music back off of my computer like the Audiotron does).
Well, something is finally getting closer to my dream device. It’s called the the Moxi Media Center and it’s a combination DVD player, Digital Video Recorder, mp3 player, and does some other stuff too. Augh, it feels like I’m soon going to be left behind if I don’t upgrade 😉

Slow Day
My plan today was to get some shopping done for things around my apartment. I went to the mall, but didn’t really find anything I want. I did figure out a few types of things I need to get. The first is I need to look for things to help with cable management. I have a few cases of cables for things that run halfway around my apartment. It’s not a bad thing, but I’d love to find something that I could run along the edges of the floor to cover wires that I have running there.I’ve got almost all my records put back into my shelves and already it is making the place look a lot better. Another thing I need to figure out is what to do with my older records, the ones I don’t think I’ll ever play again. I almost feel like bringing them to some used record store and just saying “take ’em. I don’t want them”. I could even care less about getting any money for them. I just want them gone.
I think within the next week I may actually start to feel comfortable having people stop back over again. I still have a ways to go, but things are looking much better.

Friday Five1. What was your
Friday Five
1. What was your first job I was a paperboy. I must have been in like 6th or 7th grade. I can’t remember when exactly. I did it for a few years before I finally just got fed up with it.2. How old were you when you had your first kiss? 15. I was on the way home from a school event called Mountain Day.
What was your first car? What happened to it? It was a 1985 Nissan 200SX. This was back before it just became the same thing as a 2 door Sentra. I bought it from my then girlfriend. I drove it to death. You had to remember to put water in it about once a week. I forgot after about a year and a half of having the car and it died.
What was your first concert? New Order. I never really went to any concerts until I went to college.
How do you plan to spend your weekend? Today is my Friday off, so I’m going to do some shopping for my apartment as part of my remodeling plan. Then friends are coming over tonight to help me out with anything I may need help with, and to have dinner. Tomorrow, not sure. I think I’m going to see if a friend of mine wants to come over and watch movies. I feel like I need to catch up on sleep too.

Laptop Rebuild
So yesterday I decided I wanted to repartition the drive in my laptop and reinstall OS X. After a few false starts I actually got it rocking along quite well. So I’m now in the process of getting my system back to the point it was at before, but in a much cleaner state. When I first got my laptop it was new enough that I wasn’t sure how I wanted to organize stuff on it. The reinstall was good, but just took a while to install all the updates.
