Netflix
Well, I finally got the first DVD back from Netflix. Dropped in the mail on Tuesday and I got it back on Saturday. Not too bad, but considering that I got the email that it had been shipped on Wednesday I was hoping to get it back yesterday.

More Adult Swim Goodness
Oh yeah, and tonight Cartoon Network’s second night of Adult Swim starts. Tonight we have a number of new shows on Adult Swim Action along with a number of old ones. The lineup is: Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Pilot Candidate, Gundam 0083, Outlaw Star, and Tenchi Muyo. The goodness starts at 11pm.
I’m pretty psyched about this because it’s bringing yet more anime into the public eye. Though I would like to see some other kinds of shows. I think Love Hina would be a perfect fit for adult swim.
Where did the day go?
Somehow, it became 6 o’clock at night. I didn’t think the nap I took this afternoon was that long, but maybe it was. For the time I was up today it looked beautiful outside. I love the sun. There’s nothing nicer then being able to have my shades open and let it stream in.
I’ve also got some decorating ideas for my apartment I want to try out. I have blinds for the windows in my living room, but I don’t like them that much. I’m thinking of getting some alternative kind of window covering, I’m just not sure what yet..
It looks like it will be another quiet weekend. I don’t have any plans for tonight, most probably staying in and watching the last Boogiepop Phantom DVD. I’ve really enjoyed the series, even if it does creep me out.
And speaking of DVDs, I’m planning on adding my comments to my DVD list this weekend. The idea is that I’ll be able to add comments (think mini-reviews) to the DVDs listed there.
PC TiVo?
Over on John Robb’s Radio Weblog, he mentioned that InterVideo has a product out called WinDVR. From the looks of it, it is supposed to work just like a TiVo. Looking at it I wonder why not just get the TiVo.
Being someone who owns a TiVo, I know that mine gets a lot of use. It’s on and recording stuff all the time. It’s got a 30 gig disk in it that tends to be about 3/4s full. It’s a nice self contained box that just works. It even downloads updates for itself when it phones home.
On the other hand. WinDVR would run on my PC (just barely). I’d need to go out and buy another disk (because a 15 gig disk probably wouldn’t let me buy much. I’d need to buy a tv tuner card. And, I’d have a program that runs under windows. Judging by my past history with windows this would probably mean that I’d not want to use it while doing the only other thing I do with my PC. Playing games. I’m sure one would end up slowing down the other. So where’s the benefit? The big bonus I see is that there isn’t the monthly fee that TiVo has.
Some other things I just thought of. This looks like it was mostly designed to watch TV on your computer. It’ll output to your TV though. It has no remote. So if one DID use it to watch TV, you’d have to get up and go to the computer every time you wanted to change the channel. Maybe if you are someone who wants to be in front of your computer every second of the day. But isn’t that what laptops are for :).

Goodbye Chuck
Chuck Jones passed away yesterday of congestive heart failure. For my generation, and many others, Chuck Jones was the guy responsible for me learning about cartoon physics. The Road Runner & WIle E Coyote episodes were always my favorites of his. I would watch the Bugs Bunny & Road Runner show just for the chance to see that chases. I still shriek with laughter when I watch it.
My two favorite Chuck Jones productions though, were two Hubie and Gertie cartoons: Mouse Wreckers, and Cheese Chasers. I think they are the funniest things I’ve ever seen (I need to see if they are on DVD at all).
Thanks Chuck. You will be missed.
Tune Out and Switch On
Adam Curry has once again written something really cool about blogging and Television. It’s really interesting, take the time to read about the Zen TV Experiment. I’m going to have to think about all this a bit more I think.
The Golden Compass
I just finished The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. It was really good. I enjoyed it much more then the last book I read. The story was wonderful. It follows the adventures of Lyra Belacqua on her journey to find her uncle. It takes place in a world much like ours, but with some major exceptions. The biggest of which is that every person has their own personal daemon. It’s a familiar that is always with them and can change into different animal forms.
I really enjoyed Philip Pullman’s writing and am planning on picking up the other two books in the trilogy soon. I want to get all the ones from this printing so they’ll match 🙂
Friday Five
1. Hey, baby, what’s your sign? Does it fit you pretty well?Scorpio. And I like to think it fits me pretty damn well.
2. What’s the worst birthday gift you’ve ever received?I don’t know that I’ve got any ones that were bad. Maybe uninspired ones, but nothing bad.
3. What’s the best birthday gift you ever received? Another one I’m not sure on. I’ve gotten some really nice things, but nothing stands out as being the ‘best’.
4. What’s the best way you’ve celebrated your birthday thus far? This one I can answer! My 30th birthday. I partied very hard and had an absolutely amazing time. It was a great night out at this pub. Since my birthday is right around halloween it was a halloween party and they brought out a cake at midnight when I turned 30. I have kickass friends.
5. What are you doing this weekend? My parents are coming up to Boston tomorrow to do some shopping during the day, then I’ll meet up with them for dinner. Beyond that I’m not too sure. I thought I was going to be heading down to CT for the weekend, but I think I’m going to hang around the Boston area and see what trouble I can get into.
