    I hate

Web services that require me to open up more holes in my firewall to use. Is there a good solution for this? I hate having to open up more and more holds, it’s just more and more places for security holes to creep in.

One thing that might be an interesting solution is some kind of switchboard service. Basicly it is a server that passes off messages between machines that are behind firewalls. It’s similar to a proxy server, but has some intelligence there to hold onto messages and pass them on to a specific user that is connected to it.

The program using the service would then ping the server every minute (or longer if it doesn’t have to be instantaneous) and see if there were any messages for it. Those messages could be something like an IM, and XML-RPC or SOAP call, or anything similar to that.

Of course the other big problem with this is coming up with something that everyone would buy into so that we don’t end up having a bunch of different services all offering kind of the same thing.

What brought this up? There’s at least one new thing for Radio I can’t do without opening up some holes in my firewall at home and at work.

    Another Quiet Weekend

Once again, a nice quiet weekend. This one has just been spent catching up on things. Catching up on my DVDs, catching up on reading, etc. Not catching up on sleep though. I only got five hours sleep the last two nights, though I feel a nap coming on right now. Maybe nap for two hours and then head out for a little bit of breakfast and sleep until the afternoon.

On the DVD watching front I’m almost through the 6th Kenshin DVD and from what I’ve read this is the end of the first arc of the series. From what I understand things get a little bit more intense after this. I can’t wait. Now that I think of it. I also have to start watching Noir again. I got a little stuck at around episode 12, but I think this would be a good weekend to finish it off.

I keep forgetting I have monday off

    The need to spin

I spun a short little set online tonight. It was kind of cool. I hadn’t done it forever and I was all over the place, but it was really fun.

I need to do that again soon.

    A PayPal day

Well, first when I went to my mail I had envelope from PayPal that said something like “Important information for PayPal customers”. What was it you ask? A fricken Providian credit card application. Bah.

Evan from Blogger is also having problems with PayPal. When Paypal first arrived on the internet scene I thought they were pretty cool. Back then they had a setup for making payments between friends using your Palm Pilot. It was pretty keen. I’ve used paypal more then a few times as an easy way to pay friends for things like theatre tickets or for my part of dinner. But I keep hearing more and more stories of people having major problems with them. Problems that just seem like they shouldn’t be problems when you read about them.

I don’t use PayPal that often, but I’m definitely going to be keeping my eye out for other options.

Usually there are one or two weird ones in there like “The History of Turnips” or something. Interestingly enough these are all things I might be interested in watching. Isn’t technology cool?

    Things I hate

Feeling this fragile. An old friend from San Diego is in town tonight and he’s heading out clubbing with some other folks I know. And I just know going out would take too much out of me. It drives me kind of nuts. Most of the time I don’t mind too much, but sometimes I just get so upset by it all

(Sorry for the whining post. I just had to let it out someplace.)
