    The coming Comcast hell

CNET News.com has an article up on comcast:

Comcast privacy move its latest woe. The company’s decision under fire to stop storing Web users’ data is only the latest dust-up for the cable giant that’s struggling to move customers onto its new network.

I am very much dreading the switch to Comcast. As is stated by someone in the article. I’m paying the same amount for a lower level of service. It sounds like they are going to not allow VPN access. Though I’m really not sure how they are doing this. If it just a policy or what. I’m sure I’m going to lose having a DNS (Mediaone let you choose your hostname on your network when I started.) Newsgroups are going away, I didn’t use them much, but there were support ones for Mediaone that were handy.

I have a feeling I’m going to be looking for new options. Most likely I’d go with something like DSL. I’m not sure that RCN is an option for me because I have Digital Cable, and I really like having digital cable. This whole thing just sucks. I will probably wait and see how bad it is and then decide.

Heck, I’d even be willing to pay a little bit more, not much, but a little bit. It’s weird how different people view home internet access from how we view it from work. If I want access for work I pay a premium for it. We pay for T1 lines, service, etc. A bill that would come to over $1,000/month. For home service, I get T1 speeds and pay $45/month. And then I get pissed off when I don’t get at least as good service as what I’m paying over $1,000/month for. In some ways it makes me question the cost of that high speed access at work. The whole biz is a mess.

    First iMac Sighting

I stopped by MicroCenter today on the way home and they had an iMac there. It was pretty cool looking, though. The base was bigger then I thought it would be, but still, it wasn’t really that bad. It takes up less space then a monitor though. The arm for the screen also looks much sturdier then I thought it would.

    Anime Thoughts

I’ve been watching Love Hina with my friend Chris. I’ve been supplying her with anime for the last few months. Mostly stuff I have that she wanted to see some of and some stuff at random that I like.

I think Love Hina may be breaking her some (She reads this so I’m sure I’m going to get abuse for saying anything). I actually love the series, but I think it’s a little too random for her. I better not show her FLCL, I think I’d get hurt. On the other hand, I think it does help show that there are all different kinds of anime, Enough so that it’s hard to just group it into all one classification.

    Book Note

I finished reading A Fire Upon the Deep this morning while waiting to see the doctor. I’m glad to be done with it because I didn’t think it was that great. A friend of mine recommended it to me a few years ago and I wanted to read it all the way through to see what I thought of it. I kind of liked the concepts a little, but it just didn’t click with me. I’ve heard lots of good things about the next book in my queue. Hopefully that will pull me in a little bit more.

    Back from the Doc’s

Nothing new this time around. Everything was basicly the same. Though that’s been usual lately. It’s just a lot of waiting these days.

    Off to the Doctor’s

Today is medical day. First I have to head out to Pulmonary Rehab (I should explain what that is like sometime, though it really is pretty boring), then it’s off to my every other month appointment at the lung transplant clinic, THEN I end off by going to see my pulmonologist for the first time in months.

I’m sure my pulmonologist is going to give me a hard time about not having been in in so long. But he makes it difficult because he always asks me to schedule an appointment for a time that he doesn’t have his schedule online for. Which means I usually have to call back once or twice to find out if he has updated it. And then I end up forgetting. I have to stop being so scatterbrained (or maybe I should just accept that I am and wallow in it).
