I finally saw the movie Ghost in the Shell. Should I now feel like a real anime fan? I thought it was pretty good actually, but not really close to the hype I’d heard for it. I did enjoy it more than I did Akira though.

I’m also enjoying the TV series a bit more. Though I’ve only seen two episodes. I’ll report on later episodes in a few days.

I’ve rediscovered cinnamon toast lately. I was at the store and noticed they had cinnamon sugar in the spices section. I decided this was a very cool idea and bought some and I’ve been hooked since. Of course this will be one of those products that stops being produced by the time I’m ready to get more.

According to the J-List web site news The Glico Confectionery Company has proclaimed that today is “Pocky Day”. Supposedly they did this becuase the numbers 11/11 look like Pocky sticks. Sounds look a good reason to eat too much Pocky to me! Here’s the page listing all their japanese snacks and candy.

I’ve had one of those magnetic poetry things for ages and never put any on my fridge. Tonight I took a handful of words and randomly put them up. Here’s what I got:

One year ago today I was talking about puppets, work, and packets of cream cheese.

At our local anime club, one of the best shows this semester is Boogiepop Phantom. It’s a lot like Lain, only with more blood, the weirdness turned up five times, and the timeline put through a blender. In short, it’s awesome.

It’s extremely dark and depressing, with suicide and death and killing all over the place. In one story, a kinda nice loser who likes dating games is given a drug that screws up his mind until he starts confusing reality (specifically, a girl who works with him) and his games. It ends with his mind being totally destroyed. And this is one of the less depressing stories (don’t even get me started on what they do with the Pied Piper arc). With all this emphasis on messed up mental problems, I figure that I just have to get this series and put it to some grossly innapropriate music. I’m thinking that if I get all the footage of deranged smiles, I can make a really nasty AMV to “Happy Boys and Girls.”

Every once in a while Amazon hits it on the head with their recommendations. This morning it was recommending this to me:

It is a three DVD boxed set that has Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, The Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Frosty Returns.

With the exception of Frosty Returns, these are all shows that I remember growing up with. Though, I never could actually sit through all of Rudolph because the abominable snowman guy always scared me too much (he doesn’t now). These were an immediate wish list item for me (and I think my newphew will be getting these too).
