Icey Rain BluesThe drive home

Icey Rain Blues

The drive home tonight sucked. Even when the roads were in decent condition people were driving way too slow.

On the plus side I got a steak tip sub on the way home and now it’s just waiting for me to consume it. MMMMMM Meat.

Blog AwardsI’m fairly uncertain what

Blog Awards

I’m fairly uncertain what I think of a lot of these different blog awards things that have been going on.  Most recently is the 2002 Bloggies.  Some random thoughts about this one:

  • Congrats to Evan Williams for the livetime achievement award.

  • Congrats to Wil Wheaton for the weblog of the year. (On a side note I realized that one of my favorite sites ever was last years winner.)

  • As much as I like Blogger, I could never say that it was the best weblog directory or update monitor.  It only has like the last 10 recently updated or created blogs.  As far as update monitors go, weblogs.com is much better. I still haven’t found a good weblog directory, anyone got any to recommend?

In general I thought they were okay (though I thought life uncommon should have won its category).  In some cases I feel like it had the same problem that many of these awards do, they tend to end up focused on some random subsets of all the blogs I read (though this gets into another topic about weblogs that I’ll write about later).

Windows Sucks

Once again at work windows decides to do something lame.  Somehow when my cow orker copied a file from one system to another, it forgot who owned it.  So when someone else tried to access it, they couldn’t.  What a pain.

SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21) –

SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21) – Week of January 31, 2002

Let me direct your attention to the burgeoning “Slow Food” movement (www.slowfood.com). Created as an antidote to the global blight known as fast food (read Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of The All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser), this alliance promotes the conviviality that blooms when we take time and care with the rituals surrounding food. A snail figures prominently in the Slow Food logo. I recommend you adopt this creature as your mascot for the next few weeks. May it inspire you to be luxurious and unhurried and devoted to the art of living with good taste. Can I also convince you to try Slow Sleep, Slow Perception, and Slow Love? The stars recommend it.

First full day of RadioIn

First full day of Radio

In my first full day of being a Radio Userland user I managed to end up in the low 30s as far as number of hits my site got. This is one of the side features of being a Radio user. They track referers and number of pageviews you have for you. Maybe someday I’ll get up to number one.

Quiz Time

From tif, a quiz:

  1. Estimate how many times a day you say something you wish you hadn’t. Definitely less then one.

  2. If you could live anywhere else in the world (not vacation) where would be? Tossup between London and San Diego.

  3. Telepathy or telekinesis? Telekinesis. Anything to make me more lazy.

  4. What’s something your grandparents lived through that you wish you had? I can’t really think of anything. The only big events I can think of are things like the great depression or a world war.

  5. If you were one of the Great Lakes, which would you be? Ontario.

  6. You’re in the Miss America Pageant. What’s your talent? DJing.

  7. Where is the place for pity? My bedroom

  8. Why did it take them so long to start making computers in colors other than beige? Engineers made them.

  9. The #1 names for year 2001 were Jacob and Emily. What the hell? I see nothing wrong with those names.

  10. Would you turn down the chance to marry into royalty? What if it was the year 1490? Sure. Especially in 1490, I’d probably be worse off then.

  11. How many different home telephone area codes have you had? 6

  12. Bungie Jumping: Why? For the thrill of it!

Stupid People RantI just got

Stupid People Rant

I just got in from taking care of getting my parking permit and I’ve decided that almost everyone else waiting in line with me was an idiot. When you walk into the parking office there is a big huge sign that reads:

The following are required for a parking permit: (1) Your car registration, (2) A utility bill addressed to you and postmarked within the last 30 days or two pieces of mail to you postmarked within the last 30 days. NO EXCEPTIONS

Despite those signs I watched all but one of the seven people in front of me walk up with inadequate identification and then complain when they wouldn’t take it. Why am I annoyed with this? Because I was waiting in line behind 7 people for around half and hour. When it was time for my turn, I gave the guy my registration and my electric bill and was done in under 3 minutes. No problems at all. People suck (and most of their excuses for not having what was required were lame).

Car TasksSo I need to

Car Tasks

So I need to skoot out of work a bit early today to go to the RMV to reregister my car (I paid off all my old parking tickets).  Then I need to go to the Cambridge Parking Office and get my new parking permit for the year so I don’t get a parking ticket later this week.

If I ever move from Cambridge I’ll miss having that parking sticker.  It is so handy because it lets me park in resident parking anywhere in Cambridge.
